Eligibility Exam Vs. Assessment of fundamental knowledge

Before 2011, for international dentists to work in Canada, they would have to take the EE “Eligibility Exam”. Then apply for a 2 years qualifying program in an accredited university in Canada.
The exam wasn’t only difficult, but passing the exam didn’t mean you’ll be granted a place in university. So it was extremely competitive, and only the pioneers made it to the end.
A NEW system for equivalency started 2011. In which it gives you the option to obtain your license without being enrolled in a university for 2 years. And the good thing is that throughout the equivalency exams, if you fail, you can always apply for a qualifying program.
No one has completed the process yet, since it only started this year. But let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
NB. Assessment of fundamental knowledge which is the 1st exam in the new equivalency process, is almost the same as EE  “Eligibility Exam”.
Please share your experiences.

  2. Hi everyone,
Thanks a lot for the heads up. I recently just discovered that "loophole" this year. I recently called the NDEB office Canada to confirm and if possibly get some more information, but unfortunately i couldn't get much. I was hoping to find out if there was any particular requirements to meet to be able to skip the qualifying program, because if the information posted on the NDEB website is correct, then its almost pointless doing the NDEB.

I'll be really glad if I could get some more information on this new pathway. Also any info on which textbooks and study aids that will be of use would be very helpful.

Pls feel free to reach me on (protean_2@yahoo.com)

  3. If you do pass the 1st 3 exams 1.assessment of fund. knowledge 2. clinical skills 3. clinical judgement...YOU WILL NOT DO A QUALIFYING PROGRAM. the board will treat you as a graduate from a credited-dental school...So you will only have to do the written exam and the OSCE and you will get YOUR LICENCE!
